As it states on the title...

I have an 88, 4.0, manual cherokee... my fuel guage does not work at all, I've checked out the fuses and the wires look fine...

I'm wondering if the cherokee has a sending unit or is it a big piece to pull out of the gas tank?

Sending unit is a part of the bracket that the fuel pump mounts to that's located inside of the tank.

So do you think the whole thing is bad? And I would have to replace all ( pump and sending unit)?

Or u think it can be something else?

just make sure the tank is less then 1/2 full, crawl under the jeep and un plug the pump from the harness and disconnect the hoses. using a BRASS rod and hammer ( want to avoid sparks here ! ) tap the locking ring CCW to release the pump assembly, and wiggle the whole assemblw out of the tank. replace the float assembly and make note where the adjustment is on the old one before you replace it with the new float assembly. re-install everything and hopefully this will fix your gas guage problem.

Sorry guys it is a late response, but i got it to work a short time ago. I ended up buying a new instrument cluster from some one on cragslist, installed it, and bam! All gauges work
