sounds like the sending unit is out might want to check your ground on the tank to the truck to make sure it is OK. it is what the sending unit uses to measure against. this should be one of your first steps

Is the ground a wire or is it just the tank to body connection.

Default similar problem

I have a few gauges that dont want to work for me... number one the big fuel gauge on my 85 reads empty. and the low fuel light comes on after about a minute. then the temperature gauge doesn't move. and the oil pressure gauge is maxed out. could the fuel gauge sending unit be not grounded and all my other gauges are just out? NEED HELP bad i have been trying to chase it down for a while.

Verify how much gas you have first. Once you verify the gauge is reading empty with gas in the tank then you most likely have a bad sending unit which is inside the tank. I'm not buying the bad ground theory as your Jeep still runs, right? If that ground was bad your fuel pump wouldn't be working. Also you can pull your sending unit and fuel pump out of the tank without dropping the tank. The cap to get to it is on the front side of your tank in the upper center. This cap is NOT located on the top of the tank.

I bought this jeep cherokee off of a kid that was hit on the back passenger corner. I don't know when he started having these gauge problems but the fuel, temp, and pressure gauges dont work. I have pulled the units out and they dont seem to be broken. fuse is good. i have even put a new fuse in to check it. another thing is the dash lights dont come on could this some how be connected? PLEASE PLEASE help me i have tried everything i can think of
