Default No turn signals below freezing?

2000 XJ when the temp is freezing or below. I have no turn signals. when the outside temp warm up to like 40 deg. they work again. flashed dying? not enough antifreeze in the turn signal bulbs! Ha Ha LOL any thoughts

Sounds like your blinker fluid is freezing up.. pretty typical problem in cold climates. To fix this problem you must put some de-icer in your blinker fluid.

Sorry... I really couldnt resist...

It could be the flasher, though not sure why temp would cause a problem with it especially since it is in the cab. If you had one to replace it with to test (off another vehicle) then it would be a good place to start. Interesting problem though, hope you can figure it out.

you folks really need to get out more - my '52 rover came with British spec 'trafficators' which are little hydraulically operated arms that come down as signals...not exactly 'blinkers' but there really is such a thing as indicator fluid...and antifreeze for it!!

Prerunner - check your wiring. its not uncommon here in the great white cold for cables to shrink in winter weather. if theres a break in a wire, it can touch when hot, but seperate when cold...giving exactly the symptoms you describe. You can also check the indicator switch, so see if its gunked up, and not making contact when cold.
