Alright, since i bought my 96 xj my fuel gauge has not worked. When i fill up the tank it shows its full, but with 20 miles the fuel light comes on. With just putting larger tires on and about to lift it i would like to fix this problem. any help or input from you guys on how to fix it would be helpful.

More then likely its the fuel sending unit in the tank but could be the gauge to test this turn the key on and unplug the connector at the tank the fuel gauge should go empty. Now with a test light connected to ground you need to hook it to the fuel sending wire and the gauge should read full. I'm not sure what wire it is but most pumps have four 1 power and 1 ground for the pump and 1 ground and 1 signal wire for the gauge. If it has three wires then its just using the same ground for the pump and gauge.

Someone just did a write-up/post on repairing the sending units. Wish I saved it.
