Default Fuel filter or something else?

Ok, so I was driving home the other day, and my 92 cherokee went from smooth driving to chugging between 45-55.

If I fed it more gas it would chug a bit faster then smooth out.
The fuel filter I assume is stock and should be changed. Would that be a cause?
Also I recently changed the plugs few months back, but not the wires yet, which are quite old too.

What else could be the cause?

could be a few things, but fuel system is a good place to start....and the fuel filter is the good first choice....however, since you believe it's original, as far as you know..... check out the pump, regulator, pressure, line and injectors/o-rings as well....laslty, if you end up replacing any/all of the above, might as well check out the gas tank too (needs to be dropped) - jeeps are notorious for gas tank erosion from the inside out that will cause havoc throughout your fuel system and keep you guessing and poor, until you replace it!

It will go up to 75 with fear of the DW, actually just had some of that 20 mins ago driving 55, It will drive smooth for about a mile then just bog down. The cat is rusted out so maybe thats the main issue. I'll get something to replace that tomorrow when I attempt to change the filter.

I fear the tank, the straps are quite rusted and should be replaced.
And I really cant afford anything major until I get my new job lined up. Not a free dime to spend right now, and its my only jeep.

Also heard a bit of rattling when I pulled in tonight so I'll be under trying to find that, Im thinking that maybe the brakes. I didnt install any of the anti rattle goo or clips ect when I changed them few weeks ago. along with I know all the joints in the front need replaced soon. Everything is dry rotted and semi mangled from the PO rear ending someone years ago.
