Default fuel filter questions

we picked up an xj for the wife, and its been a slow moving project. i'm getting ready to replace the fuel filter. i found one on 4wd.com for 110, but then on quadratech i found one under the same part number for 69 but seems to be an inline unit. both have the same part number
4798301

lol sorry bought that copied and pasted.
i had a live chat with quadratec, and they tried to offer me a fuel filter for a CJ

just want to know if anyone had luck with quadratec for 69 bucks, or found them else where for cheaper then 4wd.com

Have you simply tried O'Reilly, Autozone, etc. Those prices seem fairly high.

The fuel filter is inside the gas tank on your year. Why are you thinking you need to replace it?

It isn't even a fuel filter in that sense,it's a sock like piece, sounds like you need to get a manual for the xj cause you don't seem to know much about them.(not being a ***** even though it sounds it ,but take it how you like)

I'm aware that its in the gas tank. the jeep isn't getting enough fuel for some reason. and it causing a skip on two of my cylinders, fuel isn't getting to the back of the rail. it sat for over a year before i picked it up. everything else checks out. come to the determination that the filter could be clogged up. jeep has 105k. the reason i'm posting is for suggestions and help. if i'm incorrect on something, i'd prefer to be corrected. if i'm looking at the wrong parts. just let me know and give examples.

In my opinion, if it isn't getting enough fuel at the rail, and you are already planning on dropping the tank to do one thing, I'd replace the entire fuel pump. Yes, the filter could be clogged. But I'd do the entire fuel pump module just for reassurance. Cause there is a possibility of a fuel filter not solving your problem, which will cause you to go through dropping the tank yet again. But hey, if you don't mind doing it, by all means just do the filter first and go from there!

fuel filter is apart of the pump assembly....gotta drop the tank to get to it. i reccomend if your going to drop tamk go ahead and buy bosch or carter pump assembly that has everything you need to drop it in and go. DO NOT BUY AIRTEX! got my carter at pepboys for about 230$

Nope.

If the fuel has gummed up enough to clog the filter and the lines then you would be showing low fuel pressure at the schrader valve on the fuel rail. If you are having a misfire in only two of your cylinders it is possibly a fuel pressure problem or it could be that the injectors are gummed up from sitting and need some attention.

As for the filter, I agree with the above poster that dropping the tank once and changing the pump and filter as a unit is the smartest way to go. If the filter is clogged, chances are the pump isn't going to last after having to pump the gum and crap out of it.
