Default fuel filter question

I have a 97 XJ and I am having a difficult time finding a fuel filter online. I need to replace my fuel pump and fuel filter and I was told that they are both in the fuel tank. is the fuel filter a part of the fuel pump assembly? where can I find a fuel filter? I have found them for 96 and older. just not for the 97. please help thanks.

i assume you have a 4.0,go online to Kragens the suction filter you need is there, the part number is fs220 or fs221,it is to protect the pump, the pump is in the tank and this is the filter you need, the actual fuel filter is going to located on the frame,
I think you can find this at any auto parts store
Hopr this helps

thanks for your help man. the fuel pump assembly i bought came with both strainers. which is not what I am looking for. the actual fuel filter I am having a hard time finding. no auto parts store here is saying they have one. for an older model they have plenty. this is the confusing part. I am wondering where I can buy a fuel filter for the year I have which is different from the older models that have the fuel filter in the normal place.

I am not sure what filter you maybe looking for, this is the one it calls for and I would think it should work, are you sure what you have is correct?

I am not familiar with your jeep but this is an inline filter and I doubt it is in the tank, what is in the tank is the suction strainer to protect the pump, the best advise I can give you is to get under your jeep and follow the fuel line until you come across the inline filter and see if it is the same as this one,I think you will find it on the frame on the left rear, mine is an 89 and that is where it is.
