I dunno how much you guys care about the insides of your Jeep, but you can always cut a hole in the floor and come at it from the top.

If you plan on doing pump/filter swaps more than once it'd be a good though. You could rig a door there to make it look better.

You can buy it separately but if you're going to do all that work to replace it then you might as well just swap out the whole pump. The filter isn't a paper filter like other vehicles, It's a metal thing that's on the end of the pump module. If you're worried about it being clogged or something then if your jeep is still running it's not bad. Why do you want to change it? It's not a regular maintenance thing, it's meant to be permanent.

70 bucks for just the filter,
195 for the whole shebang, pull out the old one. throw in the new one and your worry free

This is a good site, it might be overpriced but it gives you a rough idea. I go to Napa for parts and they are usually a little cheaper but the difference btw parts are usually very similar

Thats what I did, weld in a lip under the floor and make a hatch.

FYI: Most manufacturers recommend changing fuel filters every 100,000km. Filters are never permanent and even though its a pain in the *** to change, you should change it.

I'm pretty sure the fuel filters on the 97+ cherokees actually don't need changing. I know it's weird, and if you can easily (with your flap in the floor) then changing it is probably a good idea, but in my manual and maintenance schedule for '99 Jeep cherokee it doesn't say anywhere to change the fuel filter. I had the same idea when I first got my cherokee because it seemed to hesitate at weird rpm's on the highway and I thought change the fuel filter. Guys at the parts store looked at me like I was a retard, they said "does it still run? Then it's FINE". They explained to me that inside the filter it's not recyclable material, it's metal screen/mesh and that they never get clogged at all unless you actually drop something in your tank. Anyways, I ran some injector cleaner, changed the plugs, wires, dist cap, rotor, put some 5W oil in, changed the battery(what a difference), put in new air filter... and she never hesitates anymore, and fuel pressure is perfect. Maybe RR 1982 try some regular maintenance things before diving into taking down the tank or cutting a hole in your floor?

Just saw this thread, and as a bit of info - the picture shown near the first of the inline filter is for the Grand Cherokee (NAPA P/N 3929).

(Yes, I work at NAPA! )

Otherwise, I agree with the others - only available as a complete sending unit with us - I remember when Chrysler started this crap that the dealer did sell it seperately, but at a high price. Russ
