Default FSM recommended?

Ahoy!

Just curious if the FSM is recommended/necessary if I already own the Chilton (or is it Haynes...don't recall) for my '98 XJ? I'm assuming it's prolly the better of the two but just wanted to ask and find out before I dropped cash on something that wouldn't be any better than what I already have.

I grabbed the Parts Catalog earlier when I was carousing. I'm assuming that the 97 FSM must be practically identical, aside from maybe a few differences here and there?

EDIT: Grabbed it and answered my own question. Thanks a bunch Sirsyc0.

I got the Haynes Book and the Factory Books. The difference is like night and day. If you intend to do work* on your jeep, you need the factory books.
The electrical diagrams are superior and that alone is worth it. everything covered is in much better detail, trouble shooting guidance, etc...

* Work meaning beyond performing fluid changes and other basic services

I use the Haynes all the time, as a headerest or something to sit on when wrenching under the Jeep. Aside from that, no, not really. FSM all the way.

FSM has all the information the other manuals leave out.

Yeah , not sure if somebody already pointed out, but the FSM is pretty handy
(download the parts catalogue too and you're all set)

If it wasn't a PDF, I'd say its a great book to read

I have both a Hayes and a '01 FSM.
The only reason I bought the Hayes was cause another Napa store, not mine, was selling it for $7 trying to get rid of them.
I have yet to crack it open let alone use it. LOL.
The '01 FSM I was lucky enough to get a hard copy for free off Craigslist. Did cost me about $15 in gas to go get it though.
Since I own a CA Emissions '00 I feel pretty confident that everything in the '01 FSM applies to my '00.
Plus I have a PDF of an '00 FSM.

You got that right. Sometimes I just browse through it.
Find stuff in there thinking to myself "That might come in handy someday". LOL.
