Front Window Wiper Issue

Default Front Window Wiper Issue

So started noticing an issue with my front window wipers on my 2000 XJ. The first setting (where you can select the speed using the dial) isn't working, in the sense that you can't adjust the speed. It basically just acts like it is in the low setting. Also whenever I switch off the wipers they stop in whatever spot they happen to be in, they do not reset back to the bottom position. Any ideas on what could be wrong and how to fix it? The problem seems to have started after I was using the wipers after a decent snow and the wipers could go all the way to their normal starting position because snow had built up under them.

Thanks for any advice!

the splines in the wiper arm could of worn or stripped out making the wiper not move all the time, something you can check pull the arm pull the tap up and wiggle the arm from the assembly check for worn splines.

since my wiper arms were quite old i had a temp fix ive put the arm in the vice and sqeezed it up just a tat making the splines a bit tighter, they probably need to be replaced but its been good for months now and we get a lot of rain they are always on when driving.

When my multifunction switch started failing on my 2k TJ it did exactly the same thing. Eventually I lost low speed wipers before I replaced the switch.

It is surprisingly easy and inexpensive to replace the multifunction switch.

You may also have a problem with the splines as mentioned in previous posts.

It could even be a failing wiper motor. I'd check splines first, then test the multi-function switch and then the motor.
