Front Springs - Need advise
Hi all, I recently bought a 1991 Jeep Cherokee Laredo form the estate of an owner who has passed away. The jeep has been lifted and looks great. However, I find that it is overall rather stiff and I have no clue what type of springs were inserted. My question is what type of springs would suit the Cherokee the best keeping in mind less overall stiffness. Also, do I need to consider the rear springs as well. All info very much appreciated.
Thanks, Jake
Thanks, Jake

We need info on how high it is. Measure from the center of the wheel cap to the bottom of the fender flare. 17.5" is stock height in front, 17" is stock in the rear. If you measure 20" up front then you have a 2.5" lift. Let us know how much you have before you can recommend you better springs/shocks. It could just be the shocks that are causing the stiff ride. Is there a brand name on the shocks or springs?

Most likely, stock shocks will fit the front. That should make it easy for you. Monroe typically gives a smooth ride.

Rusty's off road lift kits are kind of spendy but, probably the best thing I would say about my lift kit is that the front coils ride and flex AWESOME right out odf the box. So, if you're looking to just buy front XJ coils I highly recommend theirs
Their rear leafs are VERY stiff at first and ride a bit higher than advertised but after about 3 years on the XJ, they too, have broken in and ride nice and flex well. I added a rear tire carrier with 33 inch tire and put an extended shackle on, too. This may had some to do with the springs finally riding better, too. Because those rear springs were brutal when new.
