Front End wheel play
Vehicle : 1992 Cherokee standard 2WD 4.0L 289,000 miles.
To make a long story short:
I just had installed a used left front spindle, new hub assembly, rotor, caliper and brake pads.
After checking the mechanics work I found the clamp for one of the tie rods
completely loose and just dangling there. (first time using this mechanic)
Raising the tire off the ground I test for play (or looseness) up and down,
and front to back. Found no up down play but about 1/32 to 1/16 inch (my estimate) back and forth, or front to back play.
Is this normal play for a Cherokee w/290000 miles? Or should there be no
play in either direction?
TIA
Ken

Ya it's completely normal for any vehicle with that high of mileage. You need new tie rod ends. new they shouldn't have any play. With it not running can you move the steering wheel back and forth and here noises from underneath?
