front end clicking noise

I have a 90' xj that sometimes has a clicking sound coming from the front end that clicks faster the faster i go just wonderin what the problem could be i also have a loud pop that comes from the front when in 4wd thanks for the

Engine: 4.0 rebuilt w/ bored TB, banks header, upgraded ignition, 3 row rad, high flow h2o pump, 180* t-stat
wheel bearings and u joints on front axle like to go out. jack yhe front end up and stick something under your tire and move it up and down. if it clicks or moves alot the wheel bearing is out. and the u joint is right behind the steering knuckle...

X 2 Sounds like steering knuckle U-joints are bad to me. Get in there and grab the axle shaft inboard of the u-joint with your hand and shake it. If you can make it move by hand at all, it is bad.
