Default Front Drive Shaft

Well I'm nowhere close to being educated on anything mechanical, so if what I'm asking/saying makes no sense, tell me. I have a clicking noise that comes from the front end. It speeds up when you go faster, and at highway speeds grows into a full-on WUUWHWHH. I felt around the driveshafts and ujoints. The main driveshaft seems to be fine, but the front one is way loose. So my questions are:

In 2wd, is the front dshaft spinning?

If so, is that the culprit of the noise? Thanks.

The front shaft always turns when the vehicle is moving.
Try removing the front shaft to help narrow down the problem.
