Default Front diff issues

My front diff, Dana 30, is leaking from the back where the driveshaft enters the diff. My friend said it's my pinion seal. Does that sound like the correct diagnostic. And also how lychnis a headache is it gonna cause me.

Thanks

its pretty easy and it sound right just like pulling any other seal for the drive lines lol just pull it out and tap the new one in wipe some gear oil on it before you insert the drive shaft back in it prevents dirt/ grime to get in also it will have less friction which means you wont accidentally rip the seal

Wow man, please make you grammar a little better. But, yes you pinion seal is what it is. You remove the driveshaft, undo the nut holding the yoke on, pull off the yoke, pop the seal out, install a new seal, tighten the nut and yoke back up to specs, reinstall your driveshaft, check or just change the gear oil, and you are done.

Okay cool. Yeah sorry my iPod auto corrects words. My friend said I would have to take out my ring and pinion to replace the seal but I dont think that sounds right. I can take a picture after school and post it for more details.

Thanks

I usually don't, but that was bad, and if he had auto correct that explains why.

no need to pull the ring and pinion, or the diff cover for that matter.

as said above, just undo the front drive shaft from the pinion, remove the pinion nut and yoke, pry out the old seal with a cheap puller, or a screwdriver and tap the new seal in, replace the yoke, tighten nut to specs (210 ft/lbs i think) and replace drive shaft making sure the straps go on the same/correct way they were removed.

it is a good idea to drain and remove the diff cover and clean up with brake cleaner and add new fluid. no need for a gasket, you can just use rtv.

buy both seals so you have the correct one, then just return the other when done.

Ok, you can buy those rubber plugs super cheap, buy a strong diff cover with a fill plug, mod yours to get rid of the rubber plug. They may list 2 different pinion seals for each axle. It's just easier if you buy both of them, then return what you don't use.

I have the 8.25. my rubber plug isnt leaking but for the price id just get another plug and put it in. or if you can fab. make a cover or buy aftermarket to delete that. As for the two seals, yea they offered more than one. I went to autozone and got my front and lucky it was the right one. They are saying to get them both so you can fix it rather than have to make another run to the parts store.
