Default Front coil spring lift question

Exactly how necessary are the coil spring retainers that clamp onto the bottom of the springs. (presumeably to hold them in place)

I broke the bolt coming out of the one on my driver's side when I changed my springs from stock, to a 2-inch OME HD spring.

I was wondering if it's going to effect the drive, offroad ability, or make a bunch of noise when driving... anybody had this happen?

Is the peice even necessary?

Any experiences anyone has with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks-

If you don't completely unload that spring, you'll be OK. They are meant to keep the springs in place when the suspension is fully extended. I would replace the bolt. I left one off when I did my first 2"BB in a ZJ. Ended up spitting the spring out playing in some rocks.

Good thread...I was going to redrill and put a larger nut and bolt on mine, since my pass. side was stripped last weekend also! Sorry to hijack. I will be keeping an eye on this thread (especially from the full-time wheelers out there)! I thought it was important enough that I've taken it somewhat easy this week..
