Default Front Brake Rotors

I'm having trouble finding new brake rotors for my '90 4x4 XJ. The rotors that are on there now are beveled on the inside edge of the dish where it sits closest to the dust shield when mounted.
Unfortunately all of the new ones I've looked at have a 90 degree cut (not beveled) and rub when mounted and make a horrible noise that gets even louder when I hit the brakes.
I ended up resurfacing my old rotors as much as legally possible to hold me over for now but, I REALLY need new ones.

The left side was ok and looks like it's been replaced before but, the right looks like it may possibly be the OE rotor and is far too thin to be used for very long. Why anyone would replace one rotor and not both is beyond my understanding but, it appears that's exactly what the PO did.

If the rotor is rubbing on your dust shield, just bend the dust shield away from the rotor.

I'm wondering if someone swapped hub assemblies at one time.....just on the one side.

The braking surface is free and clear from the dust shield. What is rubbing, is the bottom of the "hat" just before the braking surface and it's rubbing near the center which can't be bent away.

Both sides are identical as far as I can tell.

I just got mine for my 90 a couple years ago. Napa I, think. Not too spendy. For odd reasons there is no point to getting into, sometimes one might wear to crap, while the other is OK. OK...so check for grooves where the top end of the pad presses hard on the knuckle? when braking. It happens!

On my Jeep the rings in the calipers seem to have had expanded after maybe 20 years. The piston's wouldn't reteact and I had extra wear, (and heat.) Actually that is when I found this forum. Since I didn't have the time, (at the time), to wait for shipping of the 2 stupid little rings, I needed to buy, (and hand over my), two calipers. Anyway I got the rings!

Well, I've looked everywhere and they are the same, straight cut with no bevel. I guess I could buy the rotors and take an angle grinder to them to make my own bevel. It wouldn't take much, maybe 1/16th inch. If I could find a thin flat shim, that'd work too but, all I've found are for runout correction and therefore not the same thickness all the way around.

I don't think you should need to "go there". I just looked for my receipt, didn't find it. (it has the part # wherever it is). Maybe check for an 89? Just out of curiosity I'll take a look at some I have in my barn tomorrow.

Just not a place to get creative. The right part is out there.

I ran into this problem when I was at the JY sourcing some rotors for my 90. Took a pair off a 91 they didn't fit right, wound up going back and pulling some off an 87 perfect fit. They may have given you the "chrysler" part instead of the JEEP part.

I did look up an 89. On the part they had, the outer flange (the part that goes over the lug studs) was almost half an inch thick, which would have left me almost no stud to tighten a lug nut onto.

Ok............so, I had the rotor for an '89 XJ looked up at a different parts store and although they didn't have one in stock, they did have pictures of it. The bottom of the hat looks to be beveled like I need and the top doesn't appear to be too thick like the one at the first parts store.
Unfortunately, I had to order (and pay for.........$40.00 each) them to find out for sure but, they said if the rotors won't work for me, they'll refund my money.
I'll be able to pick them up tomorrow after work.

Sounds encouraging. Be sure to let us know, your issue might be one that's come up here before.
