So I'm getting ready to replace the wheel hubs and front axle u-joints and I noticed my u-joints are held in by the C-clip.
The guy at the store gave me the u-joints with the retaining clip on the outside. Are these u-joints ok to install or should I go get the C-clip since their the ones currently installed?

He most likely gave you the wrong u-joints. The axle u-joints use inner c-clips. The drive shaft u-joints use the outer clips.
