90 stering box pissen. random Retainer Clip
I should dig in more and get some better pics. This new to me 90 has been now and then randomly pissen' out it's fluid. Fine for a while, then sometimes a big spill. Looks like it's where the shaft from the wheel comes in. There I can see something like a retaining ring that aint' in home. See pics. Please, any thoughts from somebody who has been there.
Though I'd toss it there to yall'. (yes I do know that replacing the whole thing will fix it).
Ogling at my carrot? Sorry, all mine!

Don, the retaining ring in that drawing is on the side of the box opposite the input shaft.
On the input shaft side there's a c-clip, lock nut and span nut. Behind those are three o-rings.
You pretty much have to disassemble the whole box to to get the input shaft/valve assembly out so you'll need a full seal kit. It's a real pain in the ***.
I'd get a scrapyard box and call it done. If you have part-time leaks, what's probably happened is the internals have worn to the point where there are points in the rotation where the seals no longer do. New seals won't fix that, at least not for long.

Hey Chuck. Yea was hep on the splines, My JY guy looked in his book. JY unit even came with a shaft so easy to double check. My right wrist is munched, can't squish a beer can so I paid an extra $10 to have them pull it. So $50 instead of $40. That's my total out of pocket.
Like real life, I spent as much time on the coder pin on the Pittman as I did undoing the lines! (finally I moved the nut, a little). I didn't jack up the stock Jeep sitting on 235's. Popped the "tre" on the pittman arm with a small pickle fork without mucking up the rubber.
I'm not sure I'd recommend this job to other than the seasoned. The box is heavy, a bit over 30 Lbs, and awkward as it gets. Getting the flat and the splines lined up for the column installing was a major pain. Having someone to turn the steering wheel while fitting it might help allot. In the end I was able to get it supporting the box with a little 2 ton floor jack, and driving the column on with a piece of pipe, (the jack handle) see photo. Of course you mate them with the pinch bolt out, and on a bench they would go easy, I might or might not have been a spline off.
When I got done it seems it had an orgasm or something. Spuged fluid out the cap vent clear out of the engine compartment and all over.
"pinch" bolt on column, 7/16, 11mm
Lines 18mm (don't try it with a 3/4')
Mount bolts. 5/8" worked.
Airbox, 13 & 14 mm, I forget.
Pull the Efan
The mount bolts...just back them out of the steering gear. There is a spacer deal there and they go through the frame. Leave them in the frame holding the spacer that's between the box and the frame.
