Hi all.
I got my front axle seals replaced about 12 months ago. The tell tale sign was a wet knuckle and a really stinky, grey oil drip onto the inside of my passenger side tyre.
The axle fluid was changed again about 3 months ago during a routine service.
About a week ago I noticed globs of oil (looks honey coloured, not too stinky) in the front wheel arch, directly above, behind and in front of the tyre. These globs also extended to under the frame just behind the front wheel arch.
However, the knuckle itself is dry and there is no drip or spray onto my tyre itself, like there was last time. Also, I can't see any 'new' globs since I first saw the oil stains last week.
This XJ is a pavement princess and is strictly used as a DD, so I've not driven it off road or anything. It leads a really charmed life (and yet, it still keeps emptying my pockets...)
Could it be that the axle seals have gone again? Or could it just be that the differential was overfilled 3 months ago and the excess is just leaking out (like my buddy keeps saying)?
Any input appreciated, as always.
Ash

Pull the cover out or stick your finger in the fill plug and check the fluid. I don't think you can really overfill it unless the jeep was nearly vertical when filled
