Front axle drivers side axle shaft questions.
I have a 98 XJ that has a broken drivers side axle shaft. Basically the hub assembly is shot for starters, and the axle nut has been broken off. About 1/8 of an inch behind the nut was sheered off. The only thing holding the tire in place was the caliper.
I can curious if i were to change out the entire shaft, or pull the whole shaft out, what would i be looking at doing? I did a search and didnt find everything i was looking for so hopefully this will do.
Is there anything i need to do inside the pumpkin to have the axle shaft slide out?
any info help

undo the 4 bolts that hold the hub to the spindle and remove it. take your time pulling it out and try and keep the shaft level so you don't damage the seals and your good to go

Yeah you can pull the whole shaft out without popping your diff cover off. Take the caliper and brake pads off and then you have to unbolt the hub/bearing off. there are three 13mm 12 point bolts on the back side of the knuckle. then just grab the axle shaft and pull it out.

seriously thats all? so if i replace the hub assembly, as well as the complete shaft... when i unbolt the entire hub, the axle shaft should be able to "slide" right out?

yeah but if you cut the axle seal then you will have to pull the carrier out to replace it. you might have to beat on the hub a little though. they like to rust..
