Why does my 89 xj does not have the vacuum 4 wheel drive axle disconnect

My 89 xj is a limited. my dad bought it brand new in 1989. it never had a vacuume disconnect front axle. some i hear do and some dont. i always wondered why .

NP242 "full-time" t-case had no CAD.
NP231 "part-time" t-case had CAD through 1990.

limited had the 242 cases, so no vac disconnect.
you also have abs and the larger 297 axle u-joints.
all the vac disconnect axles had the 260 joints. (except the all-illusive 95 yj with abs).

I have a 242j t case
i do not have ABS which i thought was funny. my friends 89 xj limited has abs with some kind of abs brain mounted under the rear seat. i dont. i have your basic brakes.

Well i guess that answers my question, no more wondering
But.... it raises another question.......
why did they use 2 different t-cases. hum back to wondering.
