Exclamation Freezing outside & My heater quits!!! Ahhh...

So here's the deal.... While driving in to work I had my heater on #3 out of 1,2,3,4. Out of nowhere it just quits! At that point I start freaking out!!! lol. After I settled down & started playing with the dials I found that it only works when I turn it to #4 (Hi). I haven't had a chance to really look at it w/ the FREEZING temp here. I don't have a garage or anything & don't want to brave the arctic tundra here in Wisco quite yet as I do have it blowing hot on high...

So my thought & questions would be...

- Didn't figure it would be a fuse, since the fan still works on high...

- Is there a stepper motor, or rehostat that it could be???

- Where is the motor/parts located that I should be looking at...

- Ideas or thoughts as to what it could be or where I should start? (I'm going to check fuses when I get a chance first)

I just got to work & haven't had a chance to really look at it yet, but figured i'd ask in advance to get some ideas if anyone else has had the same issue before...

Thanks guys!

It's the blower motor resistor. It is under your dash, passenger side.

Btw, is there a way to test it? (*edit- Called NAPA & it's $144!!!) Or is it a cheap enough part to replace? Whats the degree of difficulty to replace also?
Thanks again!

very easy to replace. I dunno how you got a $144 price quote, but advance auto has them for $50. I would not trust a junkyard part for these.

edit: just looked online at napa because i couldn't believe it, the parts guy was definitely incorrect.
Part # ECH BR257 - Blower Motor Resistor - $46.99
