This is why we can only hope to make classic status someday or insure with someone like Hagerty. A "friend I know" had his 67 Mustang Coupe totaled out by his son. Just a bad decision by a young driver but nobody hurt. They had traded a Jeep Wrangler for it which was worth ~$5-6K. The insurance paid $14K and had them the check in about 48 hours.

Insurance companies actually urge people who own older vehicles to drop comp/collision. No, I'd rather not get in an accident. If someone hits me, they have to pay.

If one of mine totals due to my fault, I'll salvage the usable parts that I can transfer to another one. Winch, audio, tires & wheels, bolt on stuff like that.

Then I'll part out the rest, or make it into a mud buggy for off-road use only.
