Default frame crackin at steering box.. is it repairable?

alright so i have an 89 cherokee that has been through alot but still running like a champ.. but the frame is cracking at the steering box on the front right side of the frame.. it is in the very front so it doesnt have to encounter as much twisting of the frame but i dont know what i should do.. i offroad alot and i wont the repair to be able to withstand.. what do yall think?

c-rok 4x4 makes a steering box reinforcment plate for the unibody rail. but id also weld something behind it to repair the crack before you put that plate on.

I take it that you are refering to the inside where the steering box is located. If that is the case then you can plate the frame with either 3/16" or 1/4" plate and that will solve your cracking. You need to get someone with a little bit of knowledge to weld it in b/c they are dissimilar thicknesses and you need a little practice to weld two different thicknesses like that. Once it is welded and you start to reassemble it you will need to make a new shim plate which is in between the steering box and the frame rail. it will have to reflect the thickness of the plate you used and subtract that thickness from the overall shim thickness. Hope this makes sense to you.
