I also wasn't aware of the problems with fram. Knowing what I do NOW I think I'll avoid them and just run a screw driver through it when I need to change itOriginally Posted by Firestorm500

That video was pretty poorly done. Whoever made it should have spent as much time displaying the inner workings of the Fram filter as the others. Yes there were still photos of I guess the Fram filter but to keep it consistent across the board it should have been done the same way for all.

It works fine until you get that really stubborn one that just tears instead of turns. Then you are in the unfortunate position of needing to run to NAPA to get a wrench but can't because your oil filter is shrapnel. Originally Posted by Whutdidyousay

What I use is some screwy screwdriver that is like 2 "L" shapes drivers put together. Phillips on one end, slotted on the other. I dunno how to explain it.
What I do is pop it through the top, just off center and jam it into the metal inside that retains the filter material. I've never had an issue, but I guess it's possible. Try it... It's saved my butt more than once.
Coincidentally, this is the only use I've ever found for this tool. :-)

I'm a bit overcautious at times, lol. Got burned once draining the differential on another vehicle, only to find out when I went to refill it the fill plug wasn't going to budge..no way, no how. So there I sat, no way to get to the hardware store....Originally Posted by Whutdidyousay

Don't let it get to ya.... We all get burnt now and then... That's how we develop our technique.
