WOW! Thats bad. You know the adjenda was to disprove Fram a a good filter and you know they didnt have to open 500 fram filters to do that. I really cant believe that fram wasnt even sealed.

Have you got enough money to buy an engine?

Loved the video. Great example of industy leading QC on the fram. Super high performance glued paper end caps and easy release pleat joining. LOL orange can of death.. Just take a soup can, cut a hole in the end, pour half the soup out, stuff can full of dirty rags and screw on engine. You will get about the same effect..

I hate to hijack... BUT!
Yesterday I changed my oil and the filter was empty... It was just a white unknown brand... I put on an STP filter because it's all I could get at the time. Should I find a better one? What brand and part #? It's a 4.0 in a '88 Cherokee.

These types of threads tend to wander so go ahead and jack it, that's how I learned about some of the details about the OCOD!

See post #13 where they rate various filters. You can take it or leave it but I don't think the STP's rated too well if I remember right.

But seriously, even the Fram's aren't gonna cause your engine to blow up (probably not anyway) but there are better choices. I've always heard Fram's are lousy so I never used them, came on the truck when purchased.

If it was empty, it's no good. STP never did rate well.

Right on.

LOL. You're not gonna "know" if the crappy filter is doing damage. You don't get any warning signs and it has nothing to do with yur Jeep "running good".

Yeah, can't argue with that!

Hey Whutdidyousay, no markings on the white filter you took out. Like to know who made it so it can be avoided.

Just go to Napa and get their Gold filter for longer interval oil changes or Silver for shorter interval oil changes. The video pretty much lined out the differences.

Why gamble on an oil filter that isn't 1 beer cheaper in price?

Yeah, it was empty when I took the old one off. I dunno about the STP one yet. I'll replace it ASAP and let u guys know how it was.... Will be a few days though.
The one I took off was probably the crap they use at jiffy lube or something... It already got discarded so I can't say much more. It was all white with red lettering. I can say that it was on there for a very long time. Not sure if the PO knew that the hood opened.

So I cut open the old filter. No serious deformations or holes. The anti drain gasket or whatever was clean, flexible and intact.

The upper end cap (impregnated fiber board?) was beginning to separate in one place. Nothing serious but not a filter I would want to go too long with.

If the QC at Fram was not so suspect and you were religious with your OCI then why not. But too many poor reports on build quality for me so like Cruiser54 said (I'll paraphrase) why screw around?

This thread is on it's way to blowing up.

I fail to see any purpose for this thread considering it has been covered several times before. My $0.02.

I clearly put Fram Filter in the title so people that have been there and done that could move on, and it still sucked you in . Sorry man but we haven't all been here since 09'.
