I am not certain on this, but I would think that a racecar like Indy, Formula 1, or NASCAR would not actually need an oil filter. The oil would be brand new from the start and only put on 500 miles max in a premium tuned and perfect motor. There would be no need for a filter.

...yet Fram puts their advertising on these cars nonetheless.

If they are, and most don't, they aren't using off the shelf Fram filters...even the race car fanatics talk smack about Fram filters. They say they are the cheapest made filters available.

If you like 'em, hook it up brudda! Just know that you are buying a name and little else...

(the last one I bought put 5 quarts of oil on my driveway because the Fram book recommended the wrong filter....)

Has anyone looked into a CAT filter for our xj? Obviously pricey but i cut them open all the time at work and am happy with their quality and what they catch. and seeing how we run 10w30 delvac through our cat engines, i wonder how the delvac in my 4.0 would do through them.

They use a filter, so now u know. What brand of filter do they use?.......ask 'em. I never said that they used a Fram or that I used a Fram. Sorry about your 5 qts, though it does seem like a simple visual inspection of the mounting surface and gasket not lining up would be obvious prior to starting the motor.

Not accurate I'm afraid. Of course you lumped a few HUGE categories together in there but most racing applications run racing spec filters. These are basically to catch big parts that will seriously screw things up. WIX 51515R (Racing) is a 60 micron absolute. It had a MUCH higher flow rating than a street filter... And obviously doesn't filter as well.

Don't know much about CAT oil filters (fuel filters sure) but Baldwin makes a solid unit that your CAT dealer may also carry - maybe.

The 4.0 loves a good diesel oil.

The Fram and other stickers on race cars are just part of the sponser/money thing, which racers need, to support their cars etc.
I doubt that they ever use what is advertised. The car is just a billboard..

I'll just leave this right here.

That said, I wouldn't use that Fram crap on my Jeep.

I know most "Nascar" type race cars use Dual Oil Filters............Usually 2 of the biggest, highest flowing filters they can find.................For years, and years the oil filter of choice was the Fram HP-1

I have never seen what they use in Indycar or Formula-1, but I am certain NO-one would run their high-dollar race engine without an oil filter.........More than likely, you will find multiple filters on them.............They all (Nascar, Indycar, Formula-1, Sports Cars) use a separate oil tank, and dry sump anyway.......

As far as CAT filters go.................Anything that is painted CAT-Yellow, is 3 times the price..........
I cringe anytime I have to call CAT for any parts for our equipment.......
We actually switched all of our filter stock for all of our equipment over to Baldwin filters................They are as good as any top filters made......
(Except for some of our Vogele, and Hamm equipment...........some of their filter numbers won't cross.............Damn Germans!)

Years ago, while attending an endurance sportscar race at Watkins Glen, while strolling through the pit garage, I got to watch the Risi-Ferrari team putting the bodywork back on their 333-SP, and finishing up the engine bay just prior to the start of the race...................................Not only were there Fram filters on it, they were dumping quarts and quarts of (not racing spec oil) regular off-the-shelf Texaco Havoline motor oil out of a case box into the oil tank.............................That always stuck out in my mind as interesting.......

Ferrari have used Fram filters for years..........................There seems to have been a switch as of late.................More people not wanting to use them...................

My Dad used Fram filters for years............And the cheapest oil he could get his hands on....................Never had an issue...........

I even used Fram filters in my early car days...........Cause.................That's what my Dad used...............And I never had an issue either........................

I don't use them now however.................I used to sell them alongside a bunch of other brands................I have seen side-by-side cutaways of how they are put together, and their structure doesn't inspire much confidence compared to a bunch of other brands...............

Well that's a bummer. 9 pages, and 45 minutes of LMAO and now it has to end because I'm at the last post. Darn. BTW, you'll never see a FRAM product on any of my vehicles.

You know what they say about common sense....It's not that common.

Last I knew Cat filters were made by one of the best filter companies that nobody has heard of, lol- Donaldson. They do make a filter to fit the 4.0, it's PN# P550963

Delvac is excellent oil.

I wonder just how may brands are made in China ??
The one on my Jeep is a chain brand..Drive Works from Advance auto, made in China. When I change the oil I'll cut the can off ( i have a cutter for aircraft filters ) and see what the drain-back valve looks like....

The other forums I'm on all have thumbs down on the Fram brand...
