Default Four wheel drive issue on 96 XJ

Seems like I still have an issue with my XJ pulling to the right when in 4WD and under throttle.

Drives perfect in 2wd. Has new tires, new sway bar bushings, new springs front and rear, new shocks all around as well, and front end alignment was done when new tires put on.

When I put it in 4 wheel drive (part time high), it appears to drive ok at low speeds (under 25 - 30 mph). If I start a little aggressively from a red light, it pulls to the right. It also pulls to the right (and occasionally side to side) at low highway speeds (40-55 mph) while in 4wd.

I haven't done ball joints yet, but when I had them chacked, the mechanic said they were fine.

This issue is starting to bother me since I never recall the Jeep driving this way when I had my old 2 dr XJ with 5 spd manual.

Can anyone help me diagnose this issue? The Jeep runs great and is in very good shape, with only 125K miles. I daily drive it and have no intentions to get rid of it given how hard it is to find one that hasn't been off-road, crashed, or starting to rust apart.

Appreciate any help you guys can provide.

X 2 on the question above. There is no reason to be driving highway speed in 4HI. The only time you should be in 4HI on the highway is if it is snowy and or icey and I hope you wouldn't be going that fast even on the highway in those conditions. Is it possible that the previous owner of your Jeep installed a limited slip or locking differential in the front axle. I have a front locker and my Jeep does exactly what you say your Jeep is doing but, that is to be expected with a front locker in 4WD anytime you go faster than a crawl.

Snowy/slushy driving conditions.......I wouldn't drive with the 4WD Hi on dry pavement.

How would I know if a front locker is installed? I am pretty certain I don't have LS diff.

My jeep stays in 4hi fulltime all year long and have no problems like that whatsoever.

Was talking to a friend about my issue and he asked if the alignment was done. I said yes....just a front end alignment.

Could THIS be my issue? Not having done a full 4 wheel alignment?

XJ's only need a front wheel alignment. Rear is a solid rear axle.

So not aligning the front with the rear would not have any impact on the 4WD pull I get? Isn't the front axle similar, with the tie-rods being the main difference?
