will a d44 out of an older jeep fit direct bolt up in my 98xj ....?????????or will it be a pain in the ***

By older Jeep do you mean an older XJ or other model? The 87-89 D44 from a XJ is a direct bolt in swap.

No quite a direct bolt in. You'll need the correct u-bolts, u-bolt plate, driveshaft, & e-brake cables. once you've got 'em...bolt away.
