why doesnt it make sence i know i am a newbie but isnt the ford 8.8 a good swap for cherokee? and would one out of a 98 ranger work?

all the explorers will have the one you want
the later ones have disc brakes

Definitely a late model explorer.. I think the issue you will run into with the rangers is the width of the axles but I could be wrong..

The ones in rangers aren't 31 spline They are only (I think) 27 spline.
