anything around 75w90 is fine.
if you have a limited slip (LSD) diff, you'll need a friction modifier (additive).
not sure how much an 8.25 takes, probably around 1.5-2 litres.
i buy mine in a 10 gallon pail and just fill a small bottle with a hose attached to squirt it in the fill hole.

Get both rear wheels in the air (floor jack).
Turn one wheel.
If the oposite wheel turns same direction its LS.
If the oposite wheel turns oposite direction its "open".
Also, if you plan on towing a trailer, shop manual sez to use 75-140 synthetic lube.
Just f.y.i..

look in the glove box. on the left hand side of the back of the glove box, should be a silver sticker saying this vehicle is equipped with a locking type rear differential. so you don't jack it up to change a tire, turn the wheel and have it go forward off the jack.
or when you remove the diff cover, if it has lsd, it will have clutch discs in the carrier, where the small spider gears are.
just pick up a bottle of friction modifier just in case. if it doesn't have lsd, simply return the bottle of modifier.
cheers.

As for cleaning the gears that have the Limited Slip...is it still okay to use brake cleaner to spray it out?
Also, what about the front differential...if the rear has limited slip, does the front have it too and require the additive?

i'm not sure about brake cleaner and LSD clutches. you'll have to google that.
but LSD in the front is quite rare, and never available in a jeep. afaik.

So about fluid changing then. I need the fluid with additive (or add it to it) in the rear.
In the front, do I add the same stuff or make it there is NO additive?

you need the additive for your rear limited slip differential.
you do not need the additive for your front differential.
regular 75w90 or 80w90 gear oil is fine for both front and rear. but use the friction modifier (additive) in the rear.
