Yeah never gave it any thought but you're right. I own two 1st gen XJs so I haven't looked at it much but the newer XJs have lower hanging rear bumpers.

how can i find out witch muffler will fit my XJ. i brought the flowmaster super 44 with i purchased to my regular mechanic and he said it wouldn't fit.

If it's the correct size and inlet/outlet I would ask him to please explain how it won't fit.

stock diameter is 2 1/4". so if you are just replacing the muffler then thats the size you need. center in/center out. if thats the muffler you have it will fit and he is wrong.
