Default FlowKooler Or Napa Water Pump?

Hi,
Was just curious if anyone had any good/bad reviews on a FlowKooler Hi Flow Mechanical Water Pump..I'll be replacing my water pump and I thought if I'm gonna replace it I might aswell get the best one that I can for the money.

If anyone has replaced it with one, is your cherokee running cooler? And if so is it significant? I've had some overheating issues (nothing too major) so something as simple as replacing the water pump might help fix it. If I don't get the FlowKOoler I'll probably just be getting the one from Napa. Or if anyone suggests anything I'll probably take that into consideration.

I know nothing about the Flowkooler, my guess is it's a "top shelf" part though. My suggestion regarding the cooling system would be to replace all the cooling system components, unless u have a glove box full of receipts showing that has recently been done. <$250 in parts does the whole thing, including a new rad. Replacing one component at a time means u have to drain/refill coolant each time......do it once and be done with it. Cooling system maintenance on the XJ is the last thing u want to take lightly.

Yeah, I agree with you 100%. I neglected to check my coolant when I bought it, and it was looking like diarrhea. The only things I need to replace are the upper hoses, water pump, and the radiator, just not sure if I should get the one from napa or a 3 row one from summit. Ugh the decisions!

I'll look into using the flowcooler for my IL6 4.7 application

Thanks, I'll definitely look into it. Anyone else have any feedback?

If you don't get a Flowkooler, which I know nothing about, I'd suggest you look at getting a genuine Mopar pump over any of the auto parts stores pumps. Many/all of the auto parts store pumps are made in china and have questionable quality. I paid about $75 for a Mopar pump a couple of weeks ago. Just my $0.02 but I'd rather pay dealer price for something critical like a water pump or critical engine sensors. Stuff like suspension and steering I will go after mark or OEM any day of the week.

R u saying the lower hose, the t-stat and fan clutch have recently been replaced?

Do your home work/research when it comes to radiators. Does that 3 row rad have a core that is 3X as thick as the OE style 1 row? If not, what's the point, other than sounds good. Fins/inch and # of tubes vertically r something else to compare/consider (aftermarket vs OE style).

One other thing to consider regarding the rad is the warranty......probably can get a replacement rad under warranty the same day vs waiting however many days for a replacement mail order rad. Food for thought. Most of the auto parts stores have better than factory warranties on water pumps for +/-$35. We've bought lots of parts at the various chain parts stores with good luck. Only one way I'm paying a premium for a dealer part......that's if they r the only game in town.

Don't get the flowkooler. It is basically a stock pump with a plate riveted to the impeller. I've seen people have issues where the plate comes off the back. Buy a genuine Mopar pump and it will last another 10 years. Also make sure you get a Mopar lower radiator hose, that is the only one I've found that has the spring in it like the factory one.

I recommend flushing your cooling system and replacing the components like djb383 suggested. I have a CSF 3 row radiator, Stant Super Stat 195* T-stat, and everything else is newer stock components. Pulling a trailer up a steep grade on a 95* day and the highest my temp got according to my scan gauge II was 211*. Then the T-stat fully opened and I was back down to 200* in a few seconds.

For summer, my normal operating temp is 200-206*. In winter I run 195-200*. My electric fan hardly ever turns on anymore, I almost forgot what it sounded like.

Interesting....someone else see's how XJ coolant temps actually rise/fall/fluctuate in different driving conditions/different times of the year.

Maybe those that say "the XJ was designed to run 210" are not making an accurate statement. Maybe normal coolant temp covers a "range" due to different driving conditions. Again, interesting.....thanks for the post (and good choice of stats ).

We see a slightly wider range of temps in our XJ simply because we run a 180 stat vs a 195. This time of year, we'll see the same higher coolant temp range as jeepkid03 post and in the winter months we'll see slightly lower temp ranges (180-185) due to using a 180 stat.

I think that was their old style and their new impeller is a billet one piece unit.
