Put in a new engine cause Iburried my 96 cherokee in a mud hole and blew piston threw oil pan. It turns over but dont start.I have spark ,fuel flow, plenty of compression and air intake,but wont fire up.Whats the problem? Im totally stumped.Helpppp!

First off you aren't going to get any tech help in the Comments/Suggestions/Questions area since it's not a tech area.. I'll move it to the appropriate area..

I will share my exsperience with you. I have an 89 and I put a 91 h.o in it and used my dist,it runs fine. Hold both dist up together and make sure they are the same except wiring,if they are it will work. Make sure tooth count is the same and lenght. The 89 to 91 are the same dist but wiring is different,I have never looked at a 98 vs a 96.
I have no idea what the sensor is on yours but mine is for the oil.
There have been some changes to the xjs over the years but it has to do with the control system,the mechanical side is much the same.

The distributors are the same.. All that is different is the pickup coil and the plug for it. Other then that the distributor should be the same.
