Put 6quarts of lucas oil and a can of engine restore in everytime

 

...you're kidding, right?

 

Ok... just for the record... Don't buy into Lucas Oil's claims. Yes, a little bit now and again won't hurt, but if your engine is healthy, there's no need for it. It might give a little bit of extra life to a dying engine, or quiet down a noisy engine, but you're basically putting VERY thick oil into an engine designed to run on a thinner oil.

Imagine trying to swim through a pool filled with syrup...that's basically what you're doing to your engine with Lucas Oil. If you do use it, half a bottle at most between oil changes... any more just isn't necessary.

 

I use straight lucas oil not a lucas additive and the lucas isnt any thicker than any other oils its the same as penz

 

I always used fram but only recently did my second xj oil change. What is the best filter for jeeps? I uses to have a cavalier and it took pretty much whatever I threw at it. Sorry for the noob advice!!!

 

The XJ won't reject whatever u put in/on it either......that's why u gotta be careful what u throw at it..

 

Just wondering what everyone's beef with fram is? Stp or fram is what I usually get. I always thought fram was a bit better than stp

Link to some fram info, but just google "orange can of death" then make your own decision. IU know of noone who has actually had these issues w fram, but ive heard enough to put doubt in my mind. I personally run a Wix or Mobil 1 filter.

Not all oil is made the same.

Some insight per my rep and a man I respect and believe he knows what he is talking about.

"The biggest thing about oil products is the BASE oil in the product, it comes in different Groups / levels. Most oil company’s do not bring it up, because they are using the lowest group . Here’s the thing, oil like Shell for example or any other big name oil is a bi-product from making gas . 1 crude barrel of oil (42 gallon) produces around 28 gallons of fuel, 6 gallons of napathtic oil, grease and asphalt , and ½ a gallon of paraffin oil (the highest quality) so Shell , Castrol , and quacker state all use the low grade , they are all owned by fuel company’s they have to get rid of it. Companies that only specialize in lubricants and want to sell something better, buy the paraffin oil , like Schaeffer’s , royal purple, and AMES oil. After you get a good base oil then the additive you put in it , is what makes them different from one another. There is a lot more to it, but I don’t type fast so this is the shorter version."

 

Crazy Amos, you got me thinking with the advice you recieved concerning oil......what about Valvoline?

 

I use 10w-30 of whatever's cheapest and a container of Lucas Oil Stabilizer For the filter I usually get what's cheapest as well.

 

I youtubed "fram oil filters " and found a video of a guy showing the internals of an orange fram a Napa standard a Napa gold and a k&n. The only difference between Napa gold and standard was the gold having more pleats in the filter. The k&n was the best, most pleats solid drain back valve. The fram now that kinda scared me. Least pleats. Rubber drain back and cardboard end caps. This endcaps are probably why my fram filters were heavier when spent than others. They're soaked in oil! That video makes me want to buy k&n.

 

Ya I'll be buying k&n for now on.
