Default First oil change

Ok, so my XJ is also my first car, and its time to change the oil. I'm confident that I can change the oil just fine, but I would like to know what motor oil you all use and recommend. I've heard some mixed reviews on synthetics and I really don't know a whole lot about oil, so any advice even if it seems non-related would really help me out.

Thanks!

Good luck with the 1st oc, not much to it, make sure plugs are back in and snug and fill it to between min/max marks on dip stick. Lots of mixed reviews and myths about synthetics and oil in general. In your spare time read some motor oil facts.....then u'll be able to cut thru the oil myths/bs.

Oil is oil for the most part, keep it changed regular, good quality filter, most places have sales all the time. O'reilly i think right now has 10.00 oil change deal with mobil 1. Be forwarned that the jeep takes a true 6 quarts so something like this would cost you 15 or so. Have fun with that filter and be sure to have a large catch pan!

Just changed mine last weekend. I used the oversize Napa Gold 1515 because it was a buck cheaper than the standard size Napa Gold 1085. WIX puts the Napa logo on the filter housing, obviously it's a WIX filter. Oil is pretty much oil, although I use the ashless dispersant 10W30 winter and summer here in Memphis.

Don't do what this guy does. Whatever kind of oil you decide to put in, do NOT use Fram!! A lot of mixed reviews on synthetics but when I got my XJ with 126k on it, I switched to mobil 1 10w30 synthetic and it runs flawlessly

Castrol SynBlend 10w-30 and a K&N or Wix. Depends on whether the K&N is on sale or not.

i just changed mine this week and used the oversized 1515 napa gold filter, and that thing is frickin huge compared to our little filters. the guy at napa looked at me like a moron for buying it. he said "sir that goes to a 460 ford u dont want to run that". im like "just ring it up"
