good work man. I have been dealing with some similar issues and have finally just got a grip on it. Now the Jeep is running consistently 190-200 on very hot days in deep south texas.

im glad my jeep is running the way it should and not overheating causing way more damage than running 10 degrees cooler. i take very good care of my cars and they will never burn to the ground unless someone sets them on fire.
i tought this site was for support not rude comments... posts like yours should be deleted. thats one reason why i stop using forums. so i would appreciate it if you didnt assume everyone was a dumb *** and only suggest things and not tell them your jeep will burn to the ground... thanks

Hey!!! The title of your post is Finally "DONE" I've seen people that would leave things like that and think it is fine, I saw your pics and posted because I hoped you were not doing the same. For all I knew, that was the power wire for fog lights or an amp.

Keep in mind when I see something that is a safty issue I never "Suggest" I will come right out and tell someone it will, brake, catch fire, short out, or whatever Because the people that will leave things like this tend to take you lightly when you suggest "If it were my jeep, I would rout that wire away from the spinning fan blades" Then it becomes a danger to that person and other people on the road.

Sorry if you took my post as rude, I don't want to see anyones jeep burnt up

I have replaced everything. hoses, water pump, new rad, belt, fan clutch, aux fan and flushed the radiator about a half dozen times. I have a new t-stat and t-stat housing along with a new t-stat sensor. I think that's it.

Yep, that's most of what I did on one of mine. Runs fine now. Personally, I think the lower thermostat is just masking the real issue. Yes they ran hot from the factory but they didn't run that hot on well running system. Eventually the 180 themostat will not be enough to compensate for the true issue... which in this case has not been addressed.... Makes sense right?

Yes, makes sense. my thinking was.... that out of the factory these Jeeps did not run this hot. So I thought that I should be able to get it to run at the normal running temp with out mods. with a clean engine block and new parts, she runs great. t-stat is 195 and I would rather run it with what the manufacturers originally placed in it. So I really tried hard to get this thing to run at normal temp with original but NEW parts instead of aftermarket products.

if it was overheating i would check out everything in the system, just not changing the thermostat. seems like that would be shrouding a problem that has come to show itself

I agree with you I would rather run cooler then redline hot (overheating) lol But running warmer helps thin the oil out and the oil can flow through your motor easier that's why when you run warmer around 210-220 you get better gas milage and is your peak horsepower and peak torque you can get out of your motor. But I would rather run below 210 then it overheating anyday

Sweet I want to change my mounts. My polys are pretty good but they do vibrate more then I want. I'm gonna have to try these

they are the ultra-flex rubber, so the vibs are not as bad as the polys. they installed easy and where worth it

My 87 was running about 235 when I bought her and would top out at about 260. She never would stall though. When I pulled the rad I noticed that about 40 percent of the crosstubes in the rad were plugged with the normal antifreeze and rust related crap but also picked out a few pretty big chunks of red silicone. Cleaned it out and brazed the endcaps back on and she ran at 210 during the summer in Philadelphia during rush hour traffic on the way to the pine barrens.

Big change for some small debris that was clogging the core. The overflow bottle was giving me issues so then I upgraded to the 3 row 97 rad and went open system. My temp is now at a steady 195 and with the adjustable fan switch I had to put in ( 87 had the fan switch in the rad.) aaux fan turns on at 195-200 and off again at about 180-185.

Milage has gone down a tad.( was 19 stop and go traffic) Its now just about 16 to 18 with the same driving style. Its got a little more pep and runs great.
