Final engine component installation order
The short block is dropped in the bay. Now here's my plan:
1. lube and drop in lifters
2. install head and pushrods.
3. pour Lucas additive over pushrods
4. add 6qts of 10w 30 oil - pour over valvetrain
5. prime oil pump
6. install cam sensor
7. tighten up flywheel to torque converter bolts
8. do everything else...
How's that sound??

No need for the extra pouring oil over everything, especially the Lucas. Go get some assembly lube and coat everything that makes contact. Run a high zinc oil for about 4-500 miles then change oil and filter with something decent. Lots of extra steps here that really won't help at all. Assembly lube is very thick and sticks well for a first start up... That's what it is made to do!
Oh yeah prime the lifters before slapping them in.

New cam? If not:
Put it together with assembly lube/lifter break-in on the lifters.
Fill the pan with oil as needed.
Unplug the CPS and crank the engine over with the starter til oil pressure shows on the gauge. Plug the CPS back in and start it up.
New cam and lifters? Do the same but run the engine at 2000 RPM for 20 minutes to break the cam in.

It's a rebuilt short block... the cam does not look new... and its already in the engine which is in the jeep...so I can't add any assembly lube. :/
Lifters look new....
Chad at Golen told me 2000 rpm for 20mins too... good to hear a 2nd on that.

Crank it with the CPS disconnected til you see oil pressure and then plug the CPS back in and light it off.
