Fender flares, quick question!
Hey guys, I just started to remove my stock fender flares (only the front ones) from my '94 Cherokee, and I've gotten the first one off. But what I'm wondering is about the plastic lining on the inside of the fender. Should I find a way to leave that, or just pull it off? It looks really bad and I'd like to remove it real quick if it's not vital to protecting the metal and other components.

I just went and pulled some of it off, and I saw that it would expose the door hinge and what else is back there. That'll be a problem, right?

in my case I have one of my flares off because I was working on the door hinge. I found a bit of rust under it I want to address, and I'm waiting for a day over 55-60 degrees to grind it shiny and hit it with some rustoleum.
I decided to leave the rubber in place and just pot some 1/4-20 screws and nuts thru the holes in the feder to hold it in place till I put the flare back on.
If you decide to remove the flares permanently you could do something similar to that and simply trim off the part that sticks out past the fender with a box cutter.
You would keep the rubber in place that way, though you would end up with some screw heads showing (or rivets, or whetever else you used to attach it)
I suppose they could be painted.

I'm gonna do the aluminum sheet metal approach. Gonna double layer it and just drill it out and fab it in place to fit right onto some bolts that are already sticking off the bits of frame there, prolly use some loc-tite construction adhesive on the sheet metal as well to kind of seal it and keep it there. Thanks guys.
