I feel slight wobbly vibrations in the steering wheel when I hit 60mph on the highway but then smooths out closer to 70mph. I ask a mechanic if he thought if was the shock stabilizer and he suggested maybe the tires were not mounted and balanced properly. Any suggestions?

I had the exact same symptom on my 99 and it was the track bar. My vibe eventually turned into "death wobble" before I properly diagnosed it and replaced the track bar.Even though you may not have death wobble now, the suspects (listed below) are exactly the same.
I always start with tires though; try swapping the fronts to the rears.
Good luck and be sure to keep us updated!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-Front tires out of balance (try swapping fronts to rear; see if symptoms change)
-Tire pressure. Don’t laugh.
-Improper lug nut torque on wheels
-Front alignment out of spec
-Loose track bar
-Worn track bar bushings
-Worn track bar (check for play!!)
-Bad control arms and associated bushings
-Worn/damaged steering stabilizer (not generally a cause in and by itself)
-Worn/damaged shocks
-Worn/damaged tie rod end
-Bad U Joint
-Bad ball joint
-Loose frame mount
-Steering box loose
