id like to watch!!. i check everything here since i get roughed up when i even state provable facts. i looked at the fan/shroud again and i dont see how to get one hand in less two. i can barely touch the nuts, it would be fun holding the fan and starting the first one with the shroud in!!. to get left hand in, pull the battery? i dont believe you did it,sorry.

When I did my fan clutch last summer I think it took like 25 minutes? I didn't have a hard time with the shroud and fan thankfully. I also think I took the bolts off from under the jeep? Not 100% sure though

 

How? Open end wrench with metal dowel rod attached as extension. Hand stays outside the shroud.

 

Yea it took me about the same time. No problems here with the shroud. Came right out.

 

best not to hold on to your nuts with one hand when doing this.

 

My shroud broke when I replaced the water pump today. Is there an easy way to put a new one on? I've never replaced one before.

 

a long wrench works just fine. you must aim the wrench toward the center of the engine and usually dance with the fan blades a bit to allow adequate room for movement.

edit: i also spin the shroud almost 90* during this process as it frees up a lot of space.

Replaced my sawed off upside down 'U' shroud with a complete shroud a while back.
When i changed my fan clutch recently there's enough wiggle room after unbolting and maneuvering the shroud to unbolt the fan clutch/fan blade.
The whole works lift out together at one time.

Since i've been to this rodeo a couple times before, i don't think it took me longer than 20 minutes or so to get the clutch on the bench.
On the other hand, if i would of had my cooler in the barn loaded with brewskys, it would of taken me a couple hours maybe even a couple days.

 

nope. They are so rigid that you will either break it or ding up your radiator fins. Best course of action is to loosen up your radiator. Lots of nuts but not too big of a task.

 

I've always just taken the fan out with the shroud it's not that bad, can't wear gloves tho. I have learned to turn the valve manually on the viscous clutch, while I am in there, to test that it moves freely.
