This is a stumper for sure. My fan sits well into the shroud.

That's the same part# I got on my "to get" list.

The shaft between the two mounting surfaces on my fan clutch measures 7/8" (#272310).

Same as my '96. CJ,where did you get your water pump and what's the part number?
I probably got my water pump from Napa about 10 years ago. My water pump is separate from where the fan clutch goes. That has not been touched since at least 2002.

My water pump is the original one. Fan clutch is the 272310 separate from the w/p. I'll be comparing the dimensions of the old and new w/p's.

Decided to go ahead and replace the trans mount to go along with the engine mounts I replaced about 6 weeks ago. The old trans mount wasn't giving any noticeable problems like the engine mounts did but they were broken. I did realize the trans mount was very sagged out!

With the new trans mount installed, the trans sits just over 1/2" higher now.

And the fan now sits about 5/16" lower (better centered in shroud) and is now almost 1/4" inside the shroud where I'm thinking it was supposed to be!

I can feel an increase in the air flow with my hand in front of the grille now.
