Hey all,
I have a 90 XJ and I thought I read somewhere that the coolant temp sensor has something to do with the fan clutch engaging and disengaging? I plan on replacing the sensor because i know it does act as a switch for the auxiliary fan, and mine is not coming on. Any help is appreciated.

the coolant temp sensor on 87 thru90 xjs have nothing to do with the fan clutch or the electric cooling fan ,the switch that controls the electric cooling fan on a renix xj 87 thru 90 is on the radiator tank drivers side about in the middle

So the switch on the rad tank is exactly that, just a switch? There's more than one coolant temp sensor though right? I replaced the one on the drivers side near the exaust manifold which I think is just for the gauge? I thought there was one that also affected fuel delivery?

Ok, reason for initial question is I just replaced the fan clutch but it doesn't seem to be engaging. I checked the drag cold and after it has been run, and there seems to be no difference. I having a few different problems going on and was hoping they might be connected. Thanks for the quick responses.

Cool, I'll check that on my lunch break. My other big problem has been the infamous stalling issue. I have done all the usual checks, checked and or replaced sensors, checked vacuum leaks, checked and replaced grounds, and it hasn't changed. Probably a subject for another thread, thanks for the info on the fan clutch though.

I have Haynes manual. Replaced both of those, and double-checked the tps setting was right. Replaced cps which it needed, replaced plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and even the ignition module which it also needed. Replaced both batt cables and added a ground to the body. New battery. Maybe a fuel pump? But someone told me they either work or they don't. It seems to be a fuel restriction problem though.

Cool, that looks like some good info. I have slowly but surely tried to solve this problem since last October, so I am a little frustrated and any help is much appreciated. I have to say though, my jeep has never left me stranded.
