Default Factory stereo question

I have an '01 Limited that came with the 1.5 DIN CD/Tape stereo that has the 3 band EQ and the little joystick that controls the balance and fade. Does anyone know how many watts the factory stereo puts out?

I know that the factory speakers suck. I plan on replacing the 5.25's in the doors and cargo area roof, but I haven't decided if I'm going to replace the stereo. Right now it sounds like crap, and I can barely hear the radio when I'm going down the road with the windows down.

I'm not looking for bass that will rattle the whole Jeep going down the road, or anything crazy like that, but I do want to be able to jam a little bit with the windows down.

Headunit plays a larger role than speakers in sound quality. Its approx. 9 wrms per channel stock.

Kenwood/Clarion/Alpine/Eclipse headunit.

Eclipse/Polk/Boston Acoustic/Rockford Fosgate speakers.

Does anyone other than Pioneer make a 1.5 DIN stereo that will fill the factory hole in the dash without the plastic filler plate that installation kits come with?

You want a plastic filler plate regardless, it keeps the HU from rattling around because you cant re-use the stock mounts.

Although diesel is right on the money as far as sound quality goes I am assuming you are probably like me and just want a good enough system to listen to. The brands he listed are the best but as an inexpensive alternative for a good enough system would be a Sony head unit. There bottom end is 80 bucks and its not a bad unit. I really dont know about speakers but it seems like most aftermarket speakers from reputable manufactuers will do. Again I am not an expert and I have a good enough system but total cost was about 60 because I got my stuff used.

Small budget, Kenwood.
