Factory Frame Coatings / Paint
On the 1990 XJ what is the factory frame coating process? Is the frame plated to be galvinized? Zinc paint? Or?
I am going to do some repairs and wondered what the material is. I looked inside my frame box section and it is spotless, no rust, no trace, just a nice smooth silvery grey color, looks like a zinc weld thru primer kind of. On the exterior of the frame, this same silvery grey color is under the black factory paint and rubberized under coat.
I wonder if it is a weld thru type zinc finish, given the part might have been coated prior to being attached (welded) to the floor pan.
What is the silvery grey coating on the frame?
