Default Exposed hub ok?

I my crager hub caps started to rust and look dumb, so as I was doing some general maintenance today I took them off. My dad asked if they would be ok like that, I told him they would, but he wants me to double check. So, is it ok if I drive with the hub exposed as so...

The center caps are much worse from my experiences. They fill with mud then you cant clean them out. Then your hub gets rusted out and full of gunk. I tell people NOT to run them for that reason. =P
