Default Exhaust tailpipe question

CAn you run a short tailpipe off the muffler? Like just a turn down toward the street maybme 8 inches long? Will it hurt engine or is it illegal remember keeping cat and muffler just basically no tailpipe. I live in new jersey by the way if anyone understands wat that means wen i ask if its illegal.

You will be fine with that. As long as you have a cat and a muffler you should be fine...but don't quote me. I do read a ton on here though that people run turn downs right off the muffler. So it can be done. Personal preference.

I did the same thing on mines aswell. As far as being legal it varies from state to state. Federally your jeep is legal because it has a cat. But state laws may say the exhaust has to fully exit the passenger compartment of the vehicle.

I didnt gain anything from shortening my tailpipe as far as performance goes. It did make it a hell loot louder and dronier (sp?). I mainly did it because I put a cherry bomb on it and the old pipe didnt fit right.

Well its not a real chery bomb, its a magnaflow, but I call it a cherry bomb because its a glasspack. Either way it drones like hell and I kinda wish I hadnt done it now. It does sound awesome from the outside though. No carpet and glasspack with a turndown is annoying as hell going up a hill at 1.7K RPM lol.

Jersey? You may be doing that for nothing...if its anything like NY, it HAS to be past the passenger compartment....and I'm 99% sure Jersey is..
