hey guys wanna get a new muffler for the xj...lookin at the glasspacks or the flowmaster 40 series...what does everyone suggest?...heard some horror stories about the cherrybombs?
This is a very common question on the forum and its pretty much a 50/50 split. Some people like the sound of glasspacks others like flowmaster better. I prefer flowmaster bc its deeper in my opinion and not super loud or anything.

Neither, I got a '98 with a summit racing turbo muffler and no cat with pipe coming out in front of the tires on both sides. BEST i've ever heard a jeep sound

I dont have a good enough camera to get the sound from my jeep, but my exhaust set up is a magna flow high flow cat(2.5") to a glass pack(2.5"). to a 2.5" mandrel bent tail pipe. It sounds really mean, very nice sound. I will see if i can get a good camera.
Not alot of drone either.

flow masters only drone when the tailpipe is too big. if you want a good exhaust for your jeep its not cheap. first cut everything off. then come off the manifold with 2.25" pipe just until you get down below the oil pan. from there go 2.5 to the cat and 2.5 to the muffler. use 2.25" on the tailpipe and there will be no drone or resonating. this is the setup i have on jeep with a FM 40-series. you need a center in/offset out to get the muffler in the right place. the offset goes toward the driveshaft so the tailpipe can clear the shock.

go for the glasspack i have one it does great. it gives my ride a sweet rummble ad sets off car alarms all the time. it gave my jeep a lil bit more HP and helped to cut down on a pound or 2. Plus everybody knows when i pull into their neighborhood.

alright so here is my exhaust vid. at about 2 minutes i get on to 65 mph on the main road. and at about 5:30. (ignore the creaking, i need to grease some bushings....)
At the end i rest teh camera on the ground and rev it twice.
The first half is with the hatch open the second half is the exact same "course" but with it in the back seat-hatch closed

as you can see there is more tire howl than exhaust noise.
On the main road i was in 5th(1400 rpms) thats why it has the deep sound when i give it gas to stay at speed. in 4th (2000 rms) there is a bit less noise

cherrybombs are cheap and you get what you pay for. They sound really raspy and crappy. I've had a flowmaster super 40 on my XJ and its nice and loud, as well as very deep sounding. I got compliments on it all the time. If you want the deep sound but not too loud go with the flowmaster 50 series. I thought they would be to quiet but my friend has one on his 4.0 ZJ and it sounds great! Barely any drone compared to my super 40 and still has a nice deep sound.

I have also had mine on for about 2 years now, Not cheaply made at all.
I understand these are all bias opinions, But we need to get another jeep that films a similar video to mine but with a flowmaster. That way its an apples to apples comparison.
