Perhaps the 1911 has a warped firing pin from having a crack in the holster.

When my exhaust manifold was cracked (almost completely around the 6th runner and over half around the collector), the only thing it burnt up was my patience listening to that annoying loud ticking. Also, for what it's worth, my donut gasket was FUBAR, and I drove with it 'leaking'/not sealed all the way for Lord knows how long. I don't think my engine is ruined? But what do I know... I still can't seem to find the muffler bearings in the Heep.

Ask him why smog pumps, particularly those shoving outside air directly into the manifold, don't burn the valves.

I've heard this theory before. Anything is possible, I know, but it seems far-fetched to me.

Both the gun theory and the exhaust manifold theory are bogus.
